October is no longer just a warm-up for Black Friday — it is a second holiday season all by itself. Adobe forecasts $95.8 billion in US online spending in October 2026, and a record $275.1 billion from November 1 to December 31. Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days ran October 6–7, and Walmart, Target, and Best Buy all ran big sales the same week to compete. Here is what shoppers actually bought, what is coming next, and how to time your purchases. Prices below were reported October 6–9, 2026 — always check the retailer's current price before you buy.

What's selling now: Tech

Amazon's own devices topped the best-seller lists again: Fire TV Stick HD at $15.99, Echo Dot at $39.99, and Ring and Blink cameras from $23.99 to $39.99. The hero deal across Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy was Apple AirPods Pro 3 at $179, down from $249. The iPhone 17 is still the phone to beat — it was the world's top-selling smartphone in the first half of 2026 — while the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, launched September 18 at $1,199 and $1,299, are already seeing their first discounts. On gaming, Nintendo's Switch 2 led US console sales in August and year-to-date, with NBA 2K27 and Madden NFL 27 the top games.

What's selling now: Home and kitchen

Cold weather and holiday hosting are driving home sales. Robot vacuum-mops from Roborock and Roomba were discounted 40–57%, KitchenAid's Artisan stand mixer was around $380 for baking season, and Ninja's air fryers, ovens, and CREAMi ice cream maker appeared in almost every retailer's sale. Cozy is selling too: heated throws (one Bedsure blanket had 5,000+ sold in the past month), candles, pillows, and fire pits — Walmart had a fire pit table at $68.99, checked live on October 9.

What's selling now: Beauty, toys, and fashion

In beauty, the Shark FlexStyle styler from $199 and the Dyson Airwrap at around $500 led, along with K-beauty brands like Laneige and medicube at 27–40% off. For toys, the Toy Insider's Hot 20 holiday list points to the Bluey Heeler House ($159.99), PAW Patrol Megasaurus ($49.99), KPop Demon Hunters dolls, and the Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration box as the gift-season favorites — the sellout risks to buy early. In fashion, rugby shirts, funnel-neck jackets, and packable puffers are trending, with Target taking 40% off its own-brand apparel during its sale week. Halloween spending is expected to hit a record $13.5 billion this year.

Services worth checking this month

Walmart+ was 50% off at $49 for the year during Walmart's fall sale — its cheapest entry point, and it includes early Black Friday access. Costco offered new members a $20 shop card with a $65 Gold Star membership. And if you stream: Disney+ and Hulu raised ad-free prices to $21.49 a month each in September, but the bundle of both is $21.99 — so bundling now saves almost half versus paying for both separately.

What's coming next — and its market impact

- iPhone Duo (Apple's first foldable) — preorders October 16, in stores October 23. Reported at $1,999 and up. Expect a wave of cases and accessories, and discounts on Samsung's foldables as they compete. Check Apple's site for final prices.

- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — October 23. The annual Call of Duty reliably tops the charts and drives controller, headset, and console-bundle deals.

- GTA VI — November 19, $79.99, for PS5 and Xbox only. The biggest game launch in years, eight days before Black Friday. If you need a console to play it, watch console deals that week closely — stock may get tight.

- Black Friday November 27 and Cyber Monday November 30. Adobe expects the deepest discounts on toys, TVs, and apparel on Black Friday (around 23–29%), and on electronics and computers on Cyber Monday (around 30%). A simple rule: buy toys, TVs, and clothes on Black Friday; wait until Cyber Monday for laptops and electronics.

- Sephora Holiday Savings Event — expected late October to early November. Dates were not yet confirmed by Sephora when this was written, but the event usually tiers discounts by membership level. Holiday gift sets are the traffic driver.

- Looking ahead to January–spring 2027: CES 2027 on January 6 will bring new TVs and laptops — which means January clearance on 2026 models — Samsung's Galaxy S27 is expected early in 2027, and a standard iPhone 18 is reported for spring, which should keep iPhone 17 discounts strong through the holidays.

The bottom line for shoppers

Buy now if it is a sellout-risk toy, an Amazon device at its lowest price, or a cozy-home item you need for winter. Wait for Black Friday for big TVs, toys at the deepest discount, and apparel — and for Cyber Monday for computers and electronics. We stamp every deal card on our home page with the day we last checked it, and when a deal expires, we replace it with a current one.

Forecasts are from Adobe's September 28, 2026 holiday outlook; sales rankings are from Counterpoint and Circana reporting; Halloween figures are from the National Retail Federation's September 2026 survey. Upcoming dates and prices marked "reported" or "expected" can change — check the retailer or maker before you buy.
